I am reading now Ana's text "Old Maps and New Borders" about the mismatching of your history books and the 1942 German maps that Ana grew up with. I grew up this way too, to some extend, under Communism, with certain events that were erased from the history books of which I knew that they happened, the other kind of silence, that is imposed and the erasure that is planned.

There is a connection between public grief, memory and the history of city, polis. City's wounds should not be cured, not entirely at least, the doubt and the pain should remain shimmering, just under the surface of streets and squares, otherwise we are left with amnesia, and stepping on tops of past generations without a real regard for this connection. The amnesia of cities interest me when sometimes it is self-inflicted by populations, but more when it's instigated by authorities and their functionaries.
