We should care about -empyre one of the few places where research and exchange and sharing is still free from academic political or commercial pressures.
Thanks to all who make -empyre possible as an utopian locus.
As we enter into our fourteenth year as a list-serve we celebrate the fact
that we are a global virtual community of new media artists, curators,
theorists, producers, and others whose interests revolve around critical
perspectives on contemporary cross-disciplinary issues, practices and
events in networked media. Over the years our community has grown to
1937 members and counting. We've all come to marvel at the diverse dazzle
of our community as it variously activates and lurks around our monthly
discussion
topics. What has been most fascinating for us is to consider the power of
this online forum and how the rhizomatic flow between our subscribers¹
research and projects directly imprint upon the ebb and flow of our global
identity.

That flow can be reviewed through our empire archive generously hosted by
the University of New South Wales since 2002.
We will be updating our website soon with the current list of our
moderating team: Renate Ferro (US), Tim Murray (US), Soraya Murray (US),
and Derek Murray (US). This might be an appropriate time to let you all
know that we are looking to enlarge our moderating team. We are
particularly looking for those interested who reside outside of North
America. A formal all
call will go out in a few weeks but we are hoping to add four more
individuals who will serve on our steering group.
Happy 2016 to all and let¹s celebrate. Who is empyre?
