[-empyre-] Shhh! Sean is showing.

Sean,

The burghers of Zurich and Dutch in the early 17th century
embodied the notion of household privacy that we still adhere to
in their dwellings. Places of work and commerce as well as living.
There is apparantly a genre of painting that illustrates the innovation.
You refer to the lighting effects of this genre in one of the photographs
illustrating your New Zealand home. The link through to your personal
and academic pages was, I thought, a part of your presentation. The
'rooms' and spaces are presented almost as MOO space, or this is
one permissable reading.

We have in recent times seen greater privatisation not
only of domestic space but of public space. We call this
'the privatisation of the public' (idea, institution, governmentality).
The idea that privacy, the liesure and family reproduction space of the
bourgeoisie, is in decline seems at odds with the increased
privatisation we all experience.

Please explain, with reference to the work you present here
in Empyre, how and where privacy is in decline.

Lachlan
