[-empyre-] the promise

this is the -real- last message for a bit. i'm busy packing/moving to los angeles (right now working at www.elproyecto.com in NYC) to work at the project gallery and rhizome.la. if any of you EMPYRE folk live out there maybe we'll run into each other at a dive bar.
jill:

don't you remember how many hundreds and hundreds of hours it
took
you to learn to write with a pen? or to write fluently on a
keyboard,
for that matter. it seems to me artists of every kind have
always had
to spend a lot of time learning their medium.

yeah, but daniel buren (painter), john cage (ex-musician), and jim o'rourke (musician) would disagree, as would i. people have spent years learning how to paint "correctly" and the most exciting thing of the last century was some dude walking around a canvas on the floor dripping paint, or frizzed-out warhol shooting strangely plot-less films. half of the struggle is to unlearn your medium.

_*(attendent of joseph beuys' twelve-step recovery program...mon ami acconci...and the struggle to find time for cassavetes..).

and for my three cents auriea harvey/e8z is doing some great stuff with cinema and patrick lichty is super smart and making some great explorations and interventions (if not more focused on the theory tip than the art..) (and ohio looks almost as bleak as upstate nyc where i went to school!)

bye
tim.
