I appreciate what you say Paul, but if the nature of audience in internet
is not understood (the scholarship lapsed on this point), and if one
of the tenets of a new media (or new relations of mediation of media
content) is the questioning of specialist knowledge, in science, in
notions of elite culture, and indeed in mediating the 'fit and proper'
in new media art, then we are likely to have gatekeepers who lack judgement
and experience or, worse, who actually think that nobody
uses interent or seeks art online. Some of the most popular general
sites are art historical and gallery/museum sites.
I possibly sound 'dissillusioned' with arts boards and curators, but I have not
made an application for funding for my work, scholarly or artistic, critical or
creative since 1996 - and that in any case was for a small travel grant.
