oh oh oh....
this sounds suspiciously like, "I just blog/vog for myself. I don't do it to
please anybody but myself."
i just can't let that one go!
blogs (and i would assume it's the same with vogs) are totally about meeting the
expectations of those who read them.
Even if the only assumed reader is the author herself.
c'mon, be honest now.
haven't you ever in a blog/vog, or even print diary, thought as you've written,
"heh.. this is funny! i'm going to look back on this one day and be all entranced
with my own writing style!"
well, maybe that's just me.
but putting ego aside for the moment (as if one can), even the relatively benign
expectation of your future self as a reader has an impact on what you produce in a
blog/vog.
my blog writing changes quite dramatically as my community of readers changes.
i don't see this as a bad thing- it's just a thing, an unavoidable thing.
i do think about what i link to, and how that might reflect on me personally and
professionally.
my highschool students, for example, read my site.
and it wouldn't be hard for any of their parents to stumble across it.
i know that i take risks, and i weigh my words and links very carefully.
