Re: [-empyre-] microsounders / software

I visited the links offered here but could
not find references to the software used by
the microsounders to convert txt-to-mid or
bmp-to-wav, and other computer aids they
use to compose. Any hints? Thanks!

Sorry for the late reply on this, Nemo, but here is an explanation of the gear I use...

On the hardware side, all of the pieces I have offered on my Empyre page [http://www.stasisfield.com/empyre], with the exception of the Still-Life track, were composed on a special edition iBook (one of the late-period clamshell models). I've recently purchased a 12" G4 PowerBook, which is what the Stil-Life track was composed on. I also use a Sharp MD-MT 15 portable minidisc recorder and a Sony ECM-MS907 stereo mic for field recordings. Some of my effects are created with an original model Kaoss pad. Sometimes I use a Grundig shortwave radio during live performance, sampled with and manipulated by the Kaoss pad. I also occasionally play a beat up old Epiphone bass with purposefully detuned strings.

On the software side, I use a combination of Peak and Felt Tip's Sound Studio for audio editing, some basic effects and final track mastering. For sound sequencing, manipulation and performance, I use Reason 2.0. In the past I used the shareware program SoundEffects 1.0 for performance, which was very crude...all it did was record and play loops, with no real-time effects, so every sound I made was created as a loop and had its effects added before final performance or composition. I used the Kaoss pad much more back then. I have also used MetaSynth for sound generation (a program which converts visual information into synthesized sound).
