Kathy, I agree with you totally; I was reacting to CF's postulation of
elists as dissemination/gallery spaces for online work. I've had too much
of governance on them to agree with her assessment. On the other hand, the
Web obviously does present the best of all worlds to those who can't or
won't make it to the gallery or sub to the list.
Interestingly, I was an "artistic director" (a fairly empty position) at
Hallwalls in Buffalo for close to a year, and one of the things I proposed
was that the gallery turn to telecommunications for disseminating work
outside the physical gallery structure. At that point, the suggestion was
of course turned down. Today, almost all public cultural institutions are
dealing one way or another with the Net - the resources are incredible.
