Re: [-empyre-] new media's name - who cares?

I taught 'new media' at Florida International University (until they
eliminated me and the tenure line from the art department); I thought of
the category in terms of bricolage - a grab-bag of various approaches and
technologies, which might involve everything from digital media through
vj/video performance. By stressing inclusivity, the terminology didn't
matter; I was hoping for explorations that pushed boundaries in one way or
another, but in relation to the students, that didn't matter so much
either.

One thing - almost always, electricity was involved.
