Preservation seems to be a hot topic at the moment:

Our sister list, the fabulous Crumb - Curatorial Resource for Upstart Media
Bliss,  located at  http://www.crumbweb.org
is coincidently  running a month in February on preservation, titled
"Conserving and Collecting New Media Art."  This should be a great
discussion covering  wider new media formats.

Another great resource is the Variable Media Network
http://www.variablemedia.net/ .
The variable media paradigm pairs artists with museum and media consultants
to provoke comparison of artworks created in ephemeral mediums. The
initiative aims to define each of these case studies in terms of
medium-independent behaviours and to identify artist-approved strategies for
preserving artwork with the help of an interactive questionnaire.
