We pleased to introduce two more guests joining this well
underway discussion.
The enormous Internet Archive http://www.archive.org/
with their WayBack Machine has already been mentioned
several times in our discussion, and Michele Kimpton has
been the Director of this project for the past 3 years, may
give us some insights into the archives philosophy and
strategies. As well we welcome Tinni Choudhury who is the
Research Engineer for the PANIC ( Preservation webservices
Architecture for Newmedia and Interactive Collections)
http://www.metadata.net/panic/ project. Tinni will explain
this software tool which addresses multiple and complex
format preservation issues.

---> Tinni Choudhury is the Research Engineer for DSTC
(Distributed Systems Technology Centre,
http://www.dstc.edu.au/ ) at the University of Queensland's
MAENAD unit's PANIC project since its conception December
2002. In that time she has been with the development of
Preservation Web services architecture and demonstration
unit and Preservation Metadata Input tool and Preservation
Metadata schema.
MAENAD ( Multimedia Access across Enterprises, Networks And
Domains) http://www.dstc.edu.au/Research/maenad-ov.html is
developing indexing, archival and preservation tools for
multimedia collections in the cultural, educational and
scientific domains
---> Michele Kimpton has been a Director at Internet Archive
for three years. In her role she works closely with National
Libraries, Archives and Universities to provide technical
expertise and services in Web archiving. She has developed
partnerships with several of these institutions to
collaborate on Web archiving activities, including being one
of the founding members of the International Internet
Preservation Consortium (IIPC).
Prior to Internet archive, Michele worked in the high tech
industry, mainly for profit sector, for the last 20 years.
Before coming to Internet Archive she was one of the
co-founders of an online digital imaging company, which was
subsequently bought by one of the larger photo imaging
companies. For the last ten years of her career she has
worked primarily in technical management and business
development. She has worked and lived in both Europe and
Asia during her career.
Michele has a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh
University, and a Masters of Business Administration from
the University of Santa Clara.
