another project URL for your information:

Archiving the Avant-Garde: Documenting and Preserving
Digital / Media Art

Archiving the Avant-Garde is a consortium project of the
Berkeley Art  Museum, Guggenheim Museum, and others to
"examine the nature of ephemeral art and identify core
aspects of these works to preserve."
This NEA-funded project websit contains many papers, links,
and other resources.
