[-empyre-] first nation artists extending their practice through new media

Hi All,
I am just wanting to open a question up for discussion - by way of
interest and research.
It has been said that by engaging with new modes of representation
such as digital, web based and interactivity that Maori artists or
more generally First Nation artists are able to extend the
trajectory of their practice - whilst still emphasising indigenous
heritage and history - in a way that is autonomous from western
modes of representation and the connotations of these practices.
There are numerous examples of Maori artists suggesting that by
using new media they are able to express more complex ideas.
I am curious to know how others feel about this - post the
exhibition "Techno Maori" and if these ideas still hold true?
Also, if anyone knows of anyone out there who is researching this
area or has expertise in it - I would love to get their details!
cheers,
Emily
