dear -empyreans-

there is so much interest in this topic that mailman and I are back  
logged with posts.  While I 've been away from my screen,
asleep here in the Pacific time zone, everyone else has been wide  
awake and firing.  Posts from our guests Christophe and Dirk have  
automatically posted while I've been away, leading to sequence  
confusions.  I am now trying to sort out your posts in chronological  
order and send them through.
