What happens with television and sensationalism is that it plays to the limbic gland. If I were to guess at why I'd say that all the top corporate businessmen live in constant fuck or fight stimulation. What they produce with advertising reflects the state of their minds.

Being powerless over women is a major fear of men. This is probably amplified by those with larger ambitions, to whit the greater the ambition, the greater the fear of powerlessness.

Discussing the content of media lacks a certain depth of understanding. I would ask why this happens in industrialized "liberal" nations. I also wonder what the statistical incidences are of violence towards women are in traditional societies such as Muslim cultures or Amish society for that matter. Is it more is it less is it the same?

The main issue still goes back to a male sense of being at the mercy of women for a number of things such as procreation but also crating a family and in a deeper sense the idea of kinship, clans and identity.
