Of course, in the meantime one can speculate as to the forms
that the minor narcissistic alienation of the middle classes
will take, and one can even make so-called art of those
forms, but I gotta say I'm not very impressed....

i came across Norton in his analysis of urban planning and transportation infrastructure policies related to "right of way" and "slum clearance" programs...
but what's interesting, or scary, about the whole "feral cities" theory is that Octavia Butler envisioned it in a 1993 sci-fi novel (Parable of the Sower). almost to the t.
