Dear Empyre subscribers,
We would like to introduce you to Amanda McDonald Crowley from Eyebeam and
Jeannette Ingberman of Exit Art. We are very excited for them to share
their experiences of curating all things wired and sustainable. Both have
launched exhibits on the subject with which we were able to spend time a
couple of weeks ago while in New York City. Thoughtful, provocative, and
current these shows feature the work of a multitude of artists working
between the intersections of science and technology and new media.
Looking forward to continuing this important dialog online!

Thanks to Dale Hudson, Sharon Lin Tay, and Ulises A. Mejias for finishing
out the week.
Renate and Tim

Biographies of Amanda McDonald Crowley and Jeanette Ingberman:

Amanda McDonald Crowley is Executive Director of Eyebeam Atelier in
New York http://www.eyebeam.org. She is a cultural worker, curator
and writer who specialises in creating new media and contemporary art
events and programmes that encourage cross-disciplinary practice,
collaboration and exchange. Amanda was executive producer for
ISEA2004, the International Symposium for Electronic Arts 2004, held
in Tallinn and Helsinki and on a cruiser ferry in the Baltic sea. She
was Associate Director, Adelaide Festival 2002 and in this position
was also Chair of the working group that curated the exhibition and
symposium 'conVerge: where art and science meet'. From 1995 to 2000
she was Director of the Australian Network for Art and Technology
(ANAT) where she made significant links with science and industry by
developing a range of residencies for artists in settings such as
science organisations, contemporary art spaces and virtual
residencies online. She has done residencies in Berlin, Germany
(1994/5) and at Sarai in Delhi, India (2002/3), regularly speaks at
international conferences and festivals, occasionally writes for
journals such as Artlink, RealTime and the Sarai Reader, and lurks on
a lot of media, technology and culture related lists.

Jeannette Ingberman is the co-director of Exit Art with Papo Colo.
Exit Art has charted the new in art and contemporary culture since
 it's founding in 1982.
Over the course of 20 years, Exit Art has acquired a reputation for
curatorial innovation, depth of programming in diverse media, and
especially for bringing to public attention the work of important
under recognized artists. Part of its mission is to present the work
of emerging artists in innovative ways that expose the diverse,
multi-disciplinary nature of contemporary culture. Its exhibitions,
performances and programs challenge traditional notions of what art
is and explore the rich amalgam of voices and cultures that
continually shape America. As such, it has grown to become one of the
most admired, innovative spaces for supporting artists and providing
the public with a visionary look on what's to come. Exit Art now
stands as an archive of cultural thought and expression routinely
mined by artists, students, curators, and scholars.
