Thanks Kazys for your notes about previous writing in the network...I think it's good thatyou mention facilities such as writely/google docs because we can get stuck in the wiki vs blog binary when in fact the field is more nuanced...
<When both the essay with Marc and the Networked Publics book were drafted, we posted them for comment on the Networked Publics site (now at http://networkedpublics.org). We were rather disappointed that there were few comments, at least compared to blogs.>
I'm especially interested in your experience of the great Networked Publics book project...ie no comments. Although I've not tried publishing a whole book online before, I do find that when I publish theoretical texts, the only comments I tend to get are: 'thanks, really liked it etc'. And this from other academics too. And yet, of course this is not what happens at conferences. So, it's not the case that other 'theoretical' people (ie those who are hinking, reading and working on theory) don't have things to say. but rather that they don't contribute to writing in the network when the writing takes the form of theoretical text (ie NOT a blog etc)
Do you think this has something to do with what Eduardo says about the perseverance of authorship?authority? Or that their contributions might remain unacknowledged in a knowledge economy that still requires ownership over textual contributions? Or is it just unfamiliarity?
best Anna
