[-empyre-] AR and puncturing space (REFF, and all)

To people like Savatore, Pen, and everyone else adding their $.02, pleas jump in. I have a "party" mentality, and I am so enthused to have more people be discussants as well as respondents! Yes, let's talk about REFF and everything else. I know this could turn chaotic, but please just put the subject in the heading.
I'm very pleased to say that that REFF gave me the honor of being the first "shop-dropper" of their AR text in a grocery store in Rome. I'm also thrilled to see that the text is already going viral, which, considering the lineup (including Bruce Sterling), I would expect nothing less.
This leads me to wonder how layers act to puncture the bifurcative physical/virtual space. I think REFF does this institutionally as well as phenomenologically (I use the term as the study of phenomena), and Manifest.AR does this institutionally, and I'm going to read everything up to now to delve deeper intothe issues at hand. But the notion of using AR as a systemic agent is a fascinating one.
There are also great ideas regarding device specificity. The binocular metaphor as immersive device is just great - it reminds me of the binocular machines at many scenic sights (older), and Heilig's Sensorama machine, but that is more akin to VR. It still gives the overlay without the invasiveness of AR glasses or the (brilliant term!) "bubble" of the handheld device. I also wonder if the IPad is still a bubble creator or whether the size of the screen opens space to that of a window/pencere?
