Indeed we should have a mailing list grouping together efforts around free and
open AR platform development. As far as a performant and cross-platform LayAR
substitute, I think there's surely a Kickstart.org project in there in itself..
In any case, I'll email you when we've pushed the next big chunk of code and
have binaries for user-testing. It will be a while away yet in any case.
Somewhat relatedly, in a couple of weeks we're putting together a city-wide
Improved Reality street exhibition in Helsinki based on the outcome of a
workshop engaging local artists.
Artists select billboards and make 'artverts' (static images or movies) that
critically remix and/or comment on the advert in question. We then tour public
through a city-wide walk using our Billboard Interception Units (custom digital
binoculars), where their art is seen in place of ads.
