Greetings to Empyrers:

Turkey is an interesting place for its rich history, but also for the current art scene. Discussions with Turkish artists have brought some new insights into the current lively art scene in Istanbul. I have been very fortunate to have met some great Turkish artists, who are now part of Empyre and can speak better than I about Istanbul and the impact of ISEA.

Some introductions first.  Some of my own thoughts to follow in a separate email,

Murat Germen is an artist using photography as an expression / research tool, and has exhibited his work internationally.  He is a member of the faculty at Sabanci University in Istanbul, where he teaches art, photography and new media. Sibel Tuğal explores the conceptual traces of Op Art through vector based computer composing. She began working with the computer in 1995.  Sibel is an instructor at Işık Üniversitesi, where she also works in Public Relations. Her work can be seen at:

Kerem Özcan is a multidisciplinary designer and academic, based in Istanbul, Turkey. He has a BSc in Industrial design from Istanbul Technical University and pursueing his graduate studies in the same university. He is also a member of faculty in Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts' department of Industrial design and works as a freelance designer in various projects.
