I found your article very interesting. I share with you a healthy
skepticism of the new coined expression The New Aesthetic.
What it means? An aesthetic based on the sharing of shallow content and
speedy links? An aesthetic bare from any political or critical point of
view? I asked a friend some years ago, who raised her children? She was a
single mom working fulltime and being a politician in her spare time. She
was very honest and told me: "my children are raised by the MTV and by
Disney Channel and by Marvel Group". She explained that in despite of all
the parental ideas of how to live and how to act in society the children
(two teens, 13 and 15 years old), got their most important influences from
MTV.
They knew about Grimm and Perrault and H C Andersen and about the 1001
nights and about the Maharabatta but the tales they told about and
recognized and reproduced in drawings and dreams were Mickey Mouse, Donald
Duck and Superman and Batman.
And she was a leftist politician very conscient about colonial values and
the incorrect political values inbedded in Disney's cartoons.
But she was not able to stop the children being raised in that way.
