[-empyre-] Hurricane Sandy

The very things that made New York such a powerful city -- the amount
and quality of harbor space and its strategic location between the
mainland to the west and New England to the northeast are now
liabilities. The water is too close and the storm tides incredibly
strong anyway magnified by the funnel of the Long Island Sound. Add the
very great population density making evacuation a nightmare. MOMA had a
very interesting architectural exhibition a year or so ago on the
subject of global warming and the city with interesting ideas about how
to handle the rising water table. I do not remember handling hurricanes
as part of it.
To Maria's list I would add d) because it is an adventure to take on the
storm in spite of warnings to the contrary.
