the conservativeness of the academy in itself. As the thread outlined, there were a series of observations and claims in a thesis around mess, noise, and so on that the supervisors wanted removed. The assumption seemed to be to, if you like, 'not rock the boat'. This is a very common in academia where, for example, colleagues of mine in a school of media think it is quite innovative to shift a peer reviewed journal online as individual pdfs.
