Hello all -

I am a long-time lurker as well. I have learned so much from this list
and have the utmost respect for all of the members, some of whom I am
fortunate enough to know personally. The list has helped me to explore
more in-depth subjects I am already familiar with, and to learn of
practices and theories which are new to me.

Sherry Miller Hocking has worked since 1972 with the Experimental
Television Center, which offered residencies to over 1500 international
media artists before closing in 2011. For almost 25 years the Center
also provided grants and other funding opportunities to individual
artists. In 1993 she designed and continues to direct the Video History
Project, an online informational research database for media
professionals, educators, and media programmers as well as the general
public.

She has been active in the area of moving-image preservation for many
years. She organized the /Video History: Making Connections/ conference
(1998, Syracuse University), which brought together over 250 pioneering
practitioners and contemporary artists working in new media and
interactive technologies, as well as /Looking Back -- Looking Forward: A
Preservation Symp/osium (2002, New York City), a two-day working
symposium on moving image preservation, in partnership with Mona
Jimenez, Independent Media Arts Preservation and Bay Area Video
Coalition. In 2007 she was a panelist *IMAP Electronic Media Preservation
Symposium: History of Video Art: New York Pioneers *held at the 2007
annual AMIA conference in Rochester, NY. This resulted in the formation
of Migrating Media, a coalition of media groups focused around
digitization of video collections in Upstate NY.

Currently she is co-editor of /The Emergence of Video Processing Tools:
Television Becoming Unglued /(Intellect/University of Chicago Press,
2013) with Kathy High of Renssalear Polytechnic Institute and Mona
Jimenez of New York University. Contributors include Timothy Murray,
Michael Century, LoVid,Christiane Paul and Paul Toolin, Lenka Dolanova
and many others.
