I'd like to introduce Pier Marton, who is a guest for the second week of
our dicussion. I'd like to thank everyone who is participating; please
continue!

I met Pier at UCLA; we both taught in the art department. I've admired his
social commitment, his work on the Shoah, his teaching and his art and
writing. Here is his bio:

Pier Marton's video work is in the collection of New York's Museum of
Modern Art (M.o.M.A.), the Paris Beaubourg Museum, Pittsburgh's Carnegie
Museum and Toronto's National Gallery. He has taught at major U.S.
universities like U.C.L.A., U.C. San Diego, Carnegie Mellon, Penn State,
Washington University and the School of the Art Institute where he chaired
the video department. He has given talks at Yad Vashem in Israel, the
Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and at M.o.M.A. He is the recipient of
various grants like the National Endowment for the Arts and the Memorial
Foundation for Jewish Culture. Some recent presentation topics include:
The Holocaust in 1,000 Years, Shoah & Film, Slow Cinema. His latest
efforts as the 'Unlearning Specialist' at the budding School of No Media
target our cultural blind-spots and our hide-and-seek games with
'reality.' While still compelled to take images, he wonders about the
edification and fetishization of life through art, movies and photography
and why we name things.

Thank you!

- Alan
