Just to reply to myself, I was thinking I don't think we have discussed
anticipation yet. I think anticipation gets the heart of this idea of
grounding arousal / pleasure / fantasy in the norm. Perhaps this is the
root of the boringness of a porn film: a banality that cues the
potential of a future pleasure. This seems congruent with the banality
of the narrative of a horror film that cues the potential for fright.
