Hi all,
I've loved re-visiting and discussing so many great projects this month, with such great artist and curators, and learning about new projects as well. I'm sorry I wasn't able to follow up on every idea or post, but I think we've assembled a stellar resource in all of our combined posts.
I am shortly heading off to an event called "The Value of Food: An Evening of Witness". It is the closing event for the terrific The Value of Food exhibition at The Cathedral of St John The Divine (such a crazy, strange, yet wonderous place to house such an exhibition), which has been on view here in NYC for the last few months. http://www.stjohndivine.org/programs/vof/about/exhibition
A fitting way to close out the month!
I am sure that Renate would be more than happy for us to continue to post on the topic to -empyre until she announces next month's discussion, so please do feel free to continue to send through your thoughts, comment, projects, ideas, dissent, or disagreements... Certainly for the rest of today - I'm winding down a little early in any case, to get off to my event - and likely tomorrow as well ;)
Thank you Renate for the invitation and co-moderation, and to our discussants: Nicole Caruth, Shu Lea Cheang, Leila Nadir, Jodi Newcombe, Mary Mattingly, Marina Zurkow, Stefani Bardin, Shilpa Rangnekar, Hernani Dias, Amy Lipton, and Natalie Jeremijenko (i'm sorry I was late introducing you, Natalie: if you're able, would still love to hear directly from you), and -empyre subscribers all! If anyone wants to follow up on our discussants' work without having to dive back into individual posts, I have links to everyone's web sites here: http://publicartaction.net/empyre/
At the risk of immodest self-promo (but I will do it anyway), most of the projects I've worked on in this territory are tagged <arttechfood> on my site: http://publicartaction.net/tag/arttechfood/ I would be more than happy to continue a conversation off list with anyone interested to be in touch directly. This is a topic I will continue to work on. There are a couple of projects I have in the works, and I am always happy to discuss new ideas and opportunities!!
If anyone wants to dive in a little deeper, or check out other work in this area, I use a site aggregator called scoop.it to gather resources on this topic. (They call it curating a topic, but don't get me going on the mis-use of that term as it relates to gathering information on the interwebs (or at the dinner table, or on a bookshelf, or anywhere else inappropriate) -- suffice to say that I am of the opinion you CAN be the curator of an exhibition (including one that exists only online!), a festival, an event, a residency program, a series of public programs, or indeed even a cricket pitch; its a stretch to say collecting links to information or resources, or making a list, no matter how thoughtful, is a curatorial practice). http://www.scoop.it/t/arttechfood
I'm sure that I am only scratching the surface of all the great work that is happening in this field of inquiry, but you can find various tags from the top right of that page, that I find useful to my own research. for example
my reading list: http://www.scoop.it/t/arttechfood/?tag=Reading+List
exhibitions I am aware of on this topic: http://www.scoop.it/t/arttechfood/?tag=Exhibition
And of course there are links to loads of artist projects, and related materials.
Finally, as a reminder, the archive of most of our discussion is here:
http://lists.artdesign.unsw.edu.au/pipermail/empyre/2016-March/date.html
Our server is, for me at least, based in the future, in Australia, where it is no longer March, so the final posts on our discussion are now also here:
http://lists.artdesign.unsw.edu.au/pipermail/empyre/2016-April/date.html
Its been fun! May there be more opportunities in the future.
Amanda
