 I've been enjoying these posts about our honored artists recently gone.

One project that I love of Schneeman's is Infinity Kisses, in which she explores eroticism, the later body, and even interspecies affect through her love of her cats. In this project, she is seen cuddling, caressing, and even deeply kissing. The project, when I showed it to my students, was uncomfortable to them, but it shows degrees of interspecies love that exists. The idea that this idea is often construed at the most basic of physical terms, The Cambridge Declaration on Consciousness clearly states that consciousness is a continuum, and  that empathy is clearly seen in vertebrates to now to small vertebrates (and I would argue that it obviously goes much further). This is why I love this work far beyond the ideas that it's about cats or if incorrectly read, a creepy cat lady story.  It describes the deep affect we have for our companions, from philia to agape to even elements of eros. Carolee bravely shared this work, and it continues to resonate with me to today.
