One thing I would like to ask emyreans:
Does anyone know good writing on the topic of mermaids?
Ive written a short piece on PT Barnum's Feejee mermaid, and found good things about it and similar artefacts, pop entertainment, pop science, east-west relations etc. My schtick is about shipboard discipline and the commodification of services.
I'd like to expand on the mermaid myth, especially in the 19th century when genre painters especially seemed enamoured of the fish-tailed sirens. I'll be looking in the usual places but any interesting art, writing or other leads greatly appreciated
