Hi everyone,
the empyre mini conference was a great way to begin our week.

I am writing from Treaty 1, where I am studying a rich archive of 700 black and white photographs taken by Dr T. G. Hamilton and his wife Lillian Hamilton, a trained nurse during the 1920s in Winnipeg.  It is interesting to note that Dr Hamilton was able to keep up his reputation as a respected medical doctor and an active Presbyterian despite his own growing belief in discarnate spirits. He also became a bit of a celebrity and gave 87 lectures around Canada, USA and UK. The Hamiltons owned 12 cameras, and worked steadily to improve the quality of flash photographs of ectoplasmic excretions. The resulting images are modernist in style and so aesthetically interesting that the Hamilton Family Fonds is the most used archive at the University of Manitoba.
