Even more dimensions of complexity open up because while video can be
transferred, discs decay too and become more or less unreadable.
I'm reminded by the horrified Super Nintendo Entertainment System
collector finding out that the batteries inside his cartridges don't
last forever.. even the perfect original is never perfect.
Paul, I really like the distinction between original and
verisimilitude.. extrapolating from your post thats a recognition that
what digital technology affords us is that indexical relationship to
the present - it marks the time. The distinction between the two shows
is very important.. and may grow into a schism as game shows grow in
number and type.
