Hi -empyre-

Please welcome Judith Rodenbeck, art historian, New York. Her book
Radical Prototypes: Allan Kaprow and the Invention
of Happenings, is forthcoming from MIT Press. Judith will be joining
us this week of July 13.

She writes, " I might also add that as a recovering performance artist
I last appeared in
Jennifer Montgomery & Peggy Ahwesh's "Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms" at the
Park Avenue Armory for the Whitney Biennial of 2008."

Judith brings a dry wit and cool eye to her writing and I am very
pleased she can join us. She is a long-time member of the -empyre- list.

Her professional bio :

Judith Rodenbeck holds the Noble Foundation Chair in Art and Cultural
History at Sarah Lawrence College, where she teaches modern and
contemporary
art. Her writing on contemporary art has appeared in magazines such as
Grey
Room, Artforum, and Modern Painters; she served as Editor-in-Chief of
the
Art Journal from 2007-2009. Author of numerous catalogue essays on the
neo-avant-garde, she is co-author (with Benjamin Buchloh) of
Experiments in
the Everyday: Allan Kaprow and Robert Watts--events, objects, documents
(2000). Her book, Radical Prototypes: Allan Kaprow and the Invention of
Happenings, is forthcoming from MIT Press.

Meanwhile, thanks very much to Marc Leger for putting so many issues
around 'queer relational' on the table. Marc is
a critic and writer in Montreal; his writing on Claire Bishop's
critique of Relational Aesthetics caught my eye a few months ago.
Thanks so much Marc for your contributions! Marc will be away until 25
July.

all best

your moderator Christina
