i agree with eugenio that there are very many different kinds of
networks, some community-building in a creative/artistic sense & others
not. & it's important to look at who it is who is claiming this role -
often it's a stakeholder in the social network who is employing the
current buzz-words.
maybe it's useful to ask why creative/artist community building is such
a trendy thing to claim or aspire to at the moment; this brings us back
to desire - the human desire to want to be part of a social community.
some of our traditional forms of community have broken down or become
less sustainable/satisfactory & so people are seeking a sense of
community elsewhere.
