nowadays, within the economic crisis, I can see lots of students designing
dystopic projects and using black/white drawings, as if they found within
this techniques, a way to communicate the crisis =97social, political and
economical=97 through their architectural projects. He gave a fascinating
answer:*

*It is not only the communication of the crisis that matters. architects
can propose things to happen. Many people think I am a pessimist, working
for the ending of architecture. Not at all. I believe in another possible
architecture. Form is not the purpose in this architecture but it has to be
formed with a certain shape. its form is the reference to its possibility
to be read. I prefer reading than hearing, reading is a procedure that may
include a difficulty to decipher. *

I think we all need to "read" our cities as means of understanding again
what is happening in this crucial moments. Here is an article we wrote
about "reading the city". Is in Spanish but with Google Translator the
result is not that bad:

As a personal experience I can say that I learned to love the concept of &q=
uot;city&quot; mostly through literature. I felt so good when reading the s=
ubject of this e-mail to continue the conversation that we started the past=
