The same way they do now, largely unsupported by capital. The reality of
being an artist, musician or author is very different from the culture
industry's self-image. Studies show how the vast majority are not
primarily supported by sales.

The software industry does not finance free software for the most part,
as you point out. So there is no reason why free culture should be
mostly funded by the culture industry. With large corporate clients,
I've had more luck with the non-cultural than the cultural ones in
getting free culture projects completed.
