Response to Touch 2017
-don’t see sculptor’s head, only emerging clay head
-slow pace—demands attention, patience. forces time to look at emerging
head, evolving abstraction of face
-slow transformation of emotional expressions on face contrasted with
scientific manipulation by sculptor
-sculptors hand’s on clay head create tactile connection between them, a
kind of intimacy transmitted through touch and material. cannot help but
think of clay head as equal to the sculptor as a person/body/character
-stationary camera, black background. Attempt to fade camera, camera
person, and editing into background
-narrative through slow manipulation of material, slow, sustained tactile
relationship.
-slowness
-tension between materiality of the clay and immateriality of HD (4K) video
— how does this relate viewer to clay? Linked through sculptor?Through
camera? Through video image?
> -love the slow sensuous transformation of the head
