because a great deal of net.art has a history that looks more to things like fluxus and conceptual art than art as representation. once you do this the 'frame' that helps anyone see it as art gets hard to see and so one way to make it visible is to contextualise it via commentary.


i've had plenty of students write web pages that don't work (unclosed table tag). but is it art? no. but how would you know that jodi.org's white page was art without some form of contextualisation (talking/writing about it?)
